Hoy Hoy! The Dr.'s Advice
Hey Dead fans, and everyone,
If you haven't discovered this treasure trove
of Little Feat SBD's you're a Bozo. The Feat continued the tradition of roots bar band rock begun by the Stones and later the Faces. Except
that they're American, so they mixed the Gumbo
stew with a heaping portion of New Orleans Cajun
and southern delta slide blues.
The result? As many others have correctly
stated on these Feat reviews, the Feat was both -
1. the most underrated rock band in the 70's.
2. the hottest band touring in the 70's that
still played real honest to God rock and roll.
You younger folks weren't born yet, but let
the Dr. flash you back to the mid-late 70's.
The bands that you faithfully followed for years,
the Stones, Pink Floyd and Zeppelin all began to
seriously suck by 1977 as disco took over and
large stadium shows caused bands to cave into
corporate rock values. This later gave way to
the anti-corporate reaction and the reggae and
punk rock movements.
Where to go for some really good down home
rock and roll?? Thank God Little Feat came along
just in time.
Not to say that all those bands above totally sucked in 1977. Some of the Floyd shows
from 1977 are quite good on the Animals tour.
But for pure rock, as many who saw the Feat
in the 1970's, Little Feat could flat out blow
every other band off the stage, including the Stones and Zeppelin.
The Feat has no special effects, no gyrating
Jagger, no bare chested ego infested singer playing to the girls. Just solid funky rock.
This show hasn't got a great sound, it's okay. And BTW, don't judge the show on your tiny
computer speakers. Play it on your big stereo
(do you 30 somethings even HAVE a stereo anymore?)
and you'll see the majesty of this band. A little
EQ and some good speakers does wonders for this
Little Feat was still lean and hungry in 1973 and this show is a great example of the early Feat. Pour yourself some good beer, get out some really hot food and prepare to be rocked down to your soul.
Thank you Lowell and Jerry, you're playin in that
big band up there together. Wish we could hear it.
Dr. Flashback :-)
